Sisko and Biondo Win Big at Summer 150!
This past weekend’s 9th Annual Summer 150 delivered outstanding racing, with drivers joining us from up and down the East Coast and Canada. We were treated to beautiful weather to open the weekend, and racers consistently reported phenomenal track conditions and repeatable runs throughout the event.
Our first big check of the weekend went to Mike Bryson, who captured the $1K Friday Pro Bonus with a final-round win over Steve Lenig.
The headline event on Friday belonged to Dylan Biondo, who drove the Numidia S10 to the $10K Friday Main Event victory. Dylan was laying down strong runs all day and eventually found himself matched up against his father, Sal Biondo, in a memorable three-car semifinal.
It was an excellent race between the two. Dylan left with a .006 reaction time to Sal’s .004 and followed it with a dead-on-six run for a .012 total package. Sal was right there with him, running dead-on-nine for a .013 total package, but Dylan advanced by the narrowest of margins. He then found himself lining up across from a dragster in the final round. A red light start in the right lane by Nelson Belot gave Biondo the $10K win.
Later Friday, racers began discussing the possibility of holding a Gamblers Race in place of the planned Practice Tree Race. We decided to add another full race to the program, putting an additional $4,000 up for grabs.
That money went to Wes Siegel, who defeated Francis Vignola in an all-first-generation Camaro final. Vignola was .009 on the tree to Siegel’s .006, and Wes finished the job with a .016 total run, taking .005 at the stripe to turn on the win light.
Heading into Saturday, attention turned toward Sunday’s increasingly poor weather forecast. With Sunday looking like a likely washout, we made the decision to combine the advertised $20K Saturday race and $10K Sunday race into one $30K Saturday Main Event. Our priority was making sure the full advertised purse was still paid out despite the forecast.
Siegel continued his strong weekend on Saturday, turning on win lights deep into the program before reaching the $30K Main Event Final against Steve Sisko. In the end, Sisko claimed the biggest check of the weekend and the $30,000 victory.
Saturday’s program also included the $5K 2nd Chance Race, where John Zulla Jr. took the win over Gavin Shoemaker. In Pro, Mike Fornwalt came out on top and also earned the $3K Saturday Pro Bonus with a victory over Shawn Nichols.
Between the added Gamblers Race, the combined $30K Main Event, and a full slate of bonus and second-chance racing, the weekend featured plenty of opportunities for racers to turn on win lights and take home some serious money.
We sincerely appreciate everyone who came out and supported the 9th Annual Summer 150. We hope everyone enjoyed their time at Numidia Dragway, and we look forward to seeing you back at the track soon!
