Robb and Fornwalt Claim $10K Wins at July 4th Spectacular
It was a weekend of unpredictable weather, hopeful optimism, and plenty of determination at Numidia Dragway.
We kicked things off Friday night with our Friday Night Street Legal races, which were delayed by nearly two hours after heavy rain moved in right around the scheduled start time. Once the weather cleared, the crew went to work drying the racetrack, and we were able to celebrate our country’s 250th birthday with our annual July 4th fireworks show. After that, racing resumed, and we completed the Friday night program without any further issues.
The forecast for Saturday and Sunday seemed to change by the minute. As always, with the weekend not looking like a total washout, Numidia stayed open and gave it our best effort. Thankfully, Saturday’s severe storms held off until later in the evening, allowing us to crown our first July 4th Spectacular $10K Champion of the weekend: Kyle Robb.
Robb put together strong runs and met Numidia’s own Bobby Strunk in the $10K final. In the end, Robb came out on top, earning the Saturday win and the first $10K big check of the weekend.
Sunday morning brought overcast skies, extremely humid conditions, and a forecast calling for rain as early as 1 or 2 p.m. Despite some racers deciding to pull out, we stayed committed to the program and to giving out the advertised purse. To accomplish what we needed to accomplish, we decided to go off-the-trailer no time run and right into Round 1.
With racers coming to the lanes promptly and the day running smoothly, we were able to beat the weather and crown another $10K champion. This time, it was Mike Fornwalt, who started the day in Pro off the bottom, won the $1K Pro Bonus, and then carried that momentum into the main event.
Fornwalt found himself in the $10K final against Mark Price in his dragster. In a strong finish to an already impressive day, Fornwalt edged out Price to claim the Sunday $10K win and his second big check of the weekend.
Once again, we want to thank everyone who came out and supported the weekend despite all the uncertainty in the forecast. The racers, crews, and staff all played a part in making the weekend happen.
Just remember: if you stick with us, we’ll stick with you.
